When the nipples get tanned, they look better when they're darker. Being topless while sunbathing etc, brings out the darker colors of the areolas and the tips of the nipple contrast them beautifully. It's not unhealthy to tan them, they might turn into a tougher skin because they are naturally designed to handle exposure to UV sunlight. Has anyone ever said "oh I just love how lightly colored my invisible areolas are, you'd swear I don't even have nipples on my breasts" ("inviseolas"!) Or have you ever heard "oh how I fried my nipples and they need to be removed"? I didn't think so. Plus as I've stated earlier, nipples look better when they are darker by far from the rest of the breast and skin hue. Topless tanning is very common and widely accepted everywhere.
