How To Apply Makeup Properly
The most basic premise of the application of makeup for use on the face is to select an appropriate shade of foundation or base, in order to establish a pleasing and natural skin tone. When applying makeup you can accentuate your best facial features while minimizing blemishes. Applying makeup and experiencing with different colors can be really fun. Try different samples of makeup products / base, eye colors, lipsticks/ to see how a particular group of color looks together and what suits you best. Find a set of products that work for you and get rid of those that don’t. Applying makeup flawlessly can require experience and we can even say that it is an art. The makeup application usually takes 10/20 minutes.
Before you start applying makeup:
- make sure your skin is clean and hydrated
- make sure that you have removed old traces of makeup
- make sure your hands are clean
- make sure your makeup applicators are clean
The first step when applying makeup is the application of appropriate moisturizer according to your skin type. It will improve your skin quality and act as a protective layer to help trap the moisture in the skin and stop it from evaporation. Apply the moisturizer and let it soak in at least 3 minutes before applying foundation. Take appropriate amount and apply it on the face and neck, avoiding eyes area. Dot moisturizer, an inch away from the eyes. Moisturizer applied prior to makeup will help to retain moisture and keep the skin smooth and supple.
Foundation
The correct foundation must cover, with a thin coating, both area of colorations and blemish discoloration, as well as to establish a proper and correct skin tone. Choose a foundation color that is close to your own skin tone, otherwise it will look unnatural. The foundation should be sheer, to even out your skin tone. The best way to apply it is using your fingertips or a makeup sponge. Using fingertips will give the heaviest application, but a sponge gives a thinner application. Dot foundation on your nose, chin, cheeks, forehead and neck. Start with a small amount of foundation, blending it as you go. Make sure everything blends together and looks the same. To conceal dark circles under the eyes apply small amount and blend well. If your skin is oily use lighter weight foundation, otherwise it can accentuate the enlarged pores and can even clog them.
Concealer
The next step is the application of concealer. It is one of the smooth-skin essentials. Its purpose is to cover the dark circles under the eyes, redness caused by broken capillaries, small pimples or dark spots. Apply the concealer to problem areas. Start with a slightly darker tone and blend into with a sponge to match the lighter foundation in order to avoid creating light spots. Use your ring finger to apply under-eye concealer or cover stick beneath the eye or above the eyelid moving left to right. Don’t use too lighter concealer to hide dark circles under the eyes, it should be just slightly lighter than the foundation color. To hide pimples or spots, use thick concealer that matches your skin tone. Apply it using a small makeup brush directly on the spot and blend slightly till it disappears.
The face powder is used to set makeup and hold it in place. They come in a variety of colors to match the foundation and in a translucent shade which are used with all colors of makeup. The powder must always be applied after the foundation and concealer. You can apply powder by two ways: using a powder brush or through a cosmetic puff. When using a brush – dab the powder brush into the powder and then shake off the excess powder. The application through a puff is appropriate for those with oily or combination skin. Never apply too much powder because your face will look like “a mask” and unnatural. Always match the powder with your natural skin note.
Blusher
Blusher brings a blush and glow to your face. Blusher gives a warm, healthy flush to the cheeks. A creamy blusher works best with a creamy foundation. Lots of us think that applying more blusher will enhance the benefits, but that’s not true. If your base is applied properly, just a small amount will be needed. Apply the blusher using a blusher brush – dip the brush quickly and flick your wrist to stroke the cheeks lightly. Use a soft circular motion from the centre of the cheekbones out. When applied properly blusher can shape the face, making a round face appear longer or a long face seem rounded. The powder blusher is appropriate for those with normal skin, as well as for those with oily skin.
Great care is needed when applying eye makeup, because the skin around the eyes is very thin and delicate. Sometimes makeup can set up an irritation and cause eye infections, especially when using old mascara. I recommend you to apply mascara, before applying eyeshadows, this way it will be easier for you to clean up the eyelids if small particles should drop during the application. Before applying mascara curl the lashes to widen the eyes. Make sure that the wand isn’t overloaded with mascara, if it is take some off with a tissue before applying. Look down into a mirror and stroke lashes upwards with just the tip of the brush. Always brush the lashes from above and then upwards from below to get the both sides of the lashes. First apply a thin coat, lit it dry and then build up with a second coat of mascara.
Eyeshadows
Before applying eye makeup it’s helpful to determine the shape of the eyes in order to apply the eyeshadows properly. Apply powder or eyeshadow base over the eyelids in order to prevent creasing. The eyeshadows come in a variety of colors and texture – powder shadows, creamy shadows, stick shadows. The powder shadows last longer and you should apply them using a brush. The creamy shadows are easier to apply but they tend to melt into crease lines of the eyelids. For lasting color, apply foundation or concealer to the lid, then swept a wash of color over the top, dotting in on the inner corner to open up the eyes.
The final stage of your makeup application is the lips. A swipe of well-chosen lipstick can be all it takes to transform how you look. Always apply the lipstick at the end. Draw a thin line along the edge of your lips with a pencil, using a shade darker than the lipstick. For better results use a brush to apply lipstick. Apply a dusting of powder to the lips in order to maximize its staying power. Always harmonize your lip color to the rest of your makeup. The creamy lipsticks go on more easily and are better for moisturizing your lips. The longer wearing lipsticks tend to be drier and usually last 4/6 hours.
