Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation As we all know the breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and the shape of a woman’s breast for a number of reasons. It is known that every 90th woman in USA has once in her life undergone a plastic surgery.

It is truth that the breast augmentation can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won’t change your look to match your ideal, or cause other people to treat you differently.

There are two types of implants. A breast implant is a silicone shell filled with either silicone gel or a salt-water solution, known also as saline.

The breast augmentation is the most common plastic surgery all over the world, but as with any operation there are risks associated with the procedure. The most common problems after the surgery occur if the scar or capsule around the implant begins to tighten and this in turn can cause the breast to feel hard. The excessive bleeding following the operation may cause some swelling and pain. About 10 % of the women develop an infection around the implants. In some cases the implants have to be removed for several months and then new implants can be inserted.

Occasionally the breast implants may break or leak. Rapture can occur as a result of injury or even from the normal compression and movements. Today women prefer the saline-filled implants, because if they break, the implants will deflate in a few hours and the salt water will be harmlessly absorbed by the body.

While the majority of women do not experience these complications, you should discuss each of them with your physician. It is not so simple operation as we all think.

If you have already decided to undergo the operation, your surgeon should evaluate your health-state and explain you everything about the operation. He or she should explain which surgical techniques are most appropriate for you, the type of anesthesia that will be used, and the type of facility where the surgery will be performed, and the cost involved.
You will be given instructions how to prepare before the surgery including guidelines on drinking and
eating, smoking, taking medicines and so on. Do not forget that you won’t be able to take care of yourself in the next few days after the surgery.
The breast augmentation can be performed with a general anesthesia, so you will sleep through the surgery. A small percent of the patients prefer to use a local anesthesia. After the surgery you will feel tired and sore for a few days, but you will be up after 5 days. Your surgeon can prescribe you appropriate painkillers. You should wear after-surgical bra. The stitches must be removed after 10 to 15 days, but the swelling may take 3 to 4 weeks to disappear. The scars can be firm and pink for at least 9 weeks. After several months (usually not more than 5 months) the scars will begin to fade. Unfortunately they will never disappear completely.
Do not forget that the decision to have breast augmentation depends only on you. The important thing is how you feel about yourself and whether you really need the surgery or it is just because you want to be like the Barbie girls that we all see in the magazines.
