Ayurvedic Beauty Tips at Home

Ayurvedic beauty tips have been used successfully for centuries in India, and have gained popularity around the globe. Many Ayurvedic beauty remedies are inexpensive to make and use easy-to-obtain ingredients, many found in most kitchens! Start with facial care:

For oily skin, mix 2 tablespoons of finely ground almonds with 1 tablespoon dried lemon rind and just enough milk to bind ingredients.  This is easily done in a food processor. Use this facial scrub to exfoliate the pores. Follow with a mask of sandalwood powder (or flour with a few drops of the essential oil added), turmeric powder, and enough milk to bind. Rinse after 10-20 minutes. Apply a solution of fresh aloe vera gel infused with a drop or two of either lavender or tea tree oil using a cotton ball. For a moisturizer, rub honey onto the face; leave on for 15 minutes, then rinse. Do not moisturize in humid weather!

For dry skin types, facial scrubs are necessary to help remove dead skin cells. The above almond meal scrub, with a few drops of vitamin E oil and lime juice in lieu of the lemon rind, is great for this! Follow with an application of whole milk or milk cream. Leave on the skin for 10 minutes, and then rinse with cool water. Repeat this application twice daily. To soften the skin, mash overripe bananas and apply to the face as a mask. After rinsing the skin will fell silky to the touch! Use pure castor oil massaged directly into the face and neck as a night moisturizer and wrinkle-minimizer.

Apply vitamin E oil to the hair and wrap with a hot wet towel. Fill a cotton sock or piece of cheesecloth with grated fresh ginger and draw a hot bath; tie the ginger sachet so it dangles under the water stream, infusing the bathwater with stimulating essence. Soak and relax while the hair steams under the towel for 20 minutes or more. Shampoo and condition the hair to remove excess oil. For a great body cleanser suitable for even sensitive skin types, make a mixture of half milk or soy powder and half chickpea flour and throw in a teaspoon or two of turmeric. Store in a jar and use mixed with a small amount of water to exfoliate the entire body in the shower.
