Hi to all the ladies who had their nails done by someone using an electric filler you have to watch them when they do someone elses nails if u see them over filling then walk out. they only need to remove the shine on ur natural nails, if they are doing more, leave. Acrylics are not that great for ur natual nails, if you want something just for a special event then dont do acrylics do what I do (and I went to school to do nails) I get pres-ons and use nail glue or super glue they will last about a week or so and keep the glue with you in case they pop off. they are the easist to do and you can do them yourself. If you plan on having nails for the rest of your life then I say go fiberglass with a gel overlay. they are better for your nails and you dont have to have a NEW set put on every 2-3 weeks you can just have them refilled and if you find the right place you can usually get it done cheap.. not cheaply just cheap price. I go to the store and but the gel kits with the french tips or the reg tips some have both for $20.00 and go to Sally's and get the fiberglass and do my own. It's really not that hard. It is all up to you on what you want to do. I also suggest if you can grow your own nails get a polish that helps your nails stay strong and healthy DO NOT GET ARTIFICIAL NAILS. if one breaks just file the others down as close to that one the broke and let them grow back again. oh and if you do have fake nails just grab a file and file them to the length you want before you need to go in and get them re-based you can do this at anytime.. and yes sometime you can chip them or crack them if you try to cut them down yourself. Good luck to you all =)

Hi. I've had my nails done many years now. I've always had good nails and still do. I have acrylic nails because I just want lasting polish & white tips. I prefer white tips (french tips) best so I almost always have pink & white done. This is a little more expensive but they last well and the white doesn't chip. The gels are thin and cracked easier. Anyway, having acrylic nails doesn't ruin your natural nails if they are put on and take off by a professional tech. Electric drills preps your nails for better adhesion of the acrylic hence longer lasting extensions, allow the tech to complete your extensions in less time and practically no pain. Using nail files to prep and file off the acrylic is what hurts your cuticles, takes forever, and most importantly, extension doesn't last as well. Removing acrylic by pulling it off hurts your natural nail the most so never do that. It must always be filed and soaked off in acetone. Nothing wrong with using acetone unless you're allergic to it! Make sure you maintain with 2-4 weeks refill to remove and seal any lifting and fill up the grown part. Have a take off and redo every 3-4 months to ensure a good clean base for the extension so that the extensions last as long as possible. Refills and take off redo help prevent fungal infections as liftings can trap water between the natural nail and the artificial nail helping fungi to grow. Always try to keep your nails clean and dry. Get in the habit of wearing gloves when cleaning as some chemicals yellows the acrylic. Put creams around the nails as some creams have chemicals that yellows the acrylic. If your natural nail gets lifted from the nail bed, let the acrylic grow out and eventually do a take off by gentle filing and soak when the acrylic gets bad (when you see a lot of liftings). When the nail heals, you can put the acrylic back on. Lifting of the natural nail from the nail bed is temporary and is caused by trauma of the nail bed, having your nails done too often. Having your nails done too often is not good for your natural nails. Everything done in moderation. If you start to have a nail infection, the best thing to do is get the acrylic removed, then treat the infection. When the infection is cleared, the acrylic can be put back on. This applies to any type of artificial nails. THIS IS THE TRUTH ABOUT ARTIFICIAL NAILS!!! IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO ACRYLIC, TRY GEL OR DON'T PUT ANY ARTIFICIAL NAILS ON. NATURAL NAILS ARE SLIGHTLY THINNER WHEN ARTIFICIAL NAILS ARE REMOVED SO HAVE A FEW COATS OF TREATMENT POLISH PUT ON AFTERWARDS. YOUR NAILS ARE CONSTANTLY GROWING SO YOU WILL EVENTUALLY HAVE NORMAL NAILS WHEN THESE HAVE GROWN OUT.

hi! i just starded doing nails on my self, but sometimes a crystaly, snowy look seems to appear when the acrylic drys.. what causes these? does temperature have anything to do with it or my mix ratio? i would really appreciate the help... thank you..!

I got acrylic nails just under 2 weeks ago and they are starting to lift and have grown out quite a bit, if i go get them filled, would this fix the lifting problem? or will it still be noticeable? what do you recommend i do? and is there something that i can do to help prevent lifting ? Thank you very much.

I was wondering the same thing. I uwe the nail glue but I would like for them to stay on longer. I would think that you would just apply the nail then buff and apply the acrylic stuff. Does anyone have any ideas????

Emmy ---- I feel so sorry for you.
I had a similar experience my 3rd trip back for fill-ins. I was in so much pain and tears when I left. I never went back. Ever. I grew off the acrylics and I now paint artificial nails myself, and glue them on when I want a nice manicure.

The set of acrylics that I got RUINED my nails.
I don't recommend ANYONE to get acrylics unless
you can afford $65 EVERY TWO WEEKS for the
rest of your lives!

I use the full cover nails by Nailene. However I would like for them to stay on longer and would like to use the acrylic powerder to do so. Is that possible? Is it ok to do it that way?

Hello Shirley, yes you can also use the acrylic powder with the liquid. It needs more handicraft...gel is easier to apply. Yet you can use both. Clean and prepare nails as usual, decide whether you want a french or not (thus painting a smile line). For a perfect c-curve try popits - you can fill them in and put them onto your nails. There a lots of videos on youtub for this technique.

Can I use the monomer liquid and powder on my natural nails without using false tips, since they are of the right length...I just want to have them tougher and prevent them from breaking!? What are the dangers of doing this...if it is possible at all? Thanks!

Hello, I am doing my nails myself with both acrylic and gel, depending on what comes up. Most important: a very very good preparation. So for Kara and the others: If your nailist uses electric sanding or filing, leave the place. It is one of the main reasons why severe nail problems occur later on, and you are worse off than before. It also requires a lot of professional training. The natural nail should only be buffered lightly to get the shine off. AND THAT'S IT.
For Terri: If your nails are lifting from the bed, there maybe was too much tension on the nail because stress points were not put on properly (that is the sculpturing of the nail was not done at its best) and of course the growth increases the problem.
For hira: depends on what you want to do. Just strenghten them using a gel finish will not require to cut/shorten them. You won't need tips or extensions, only then you have to shorten them to get a good result.
